Anew Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby league Under-19 winner will be crowned at Ratu Cakobau Park after tomorrow’s final.
This is after defending champions Queen Victoria School Knights lost in the South/East Zone quarterfinals 10-16 against Marist Storms. Tailevu North neighbour Ratu Kadavulevu School Eels are now geared for the challenge against the Naitasiri Warriors for the final. Eels’ captain and Bucaisau, Macuata native Sylvester Tamaicakai indicated despite losing some players to their athletics team they still managed to reach the final.
“We have been humbly prepared,” Tamaicakai said.
“Naitasiri is one of the best team in the FSSRL competition and we respect them.
“We are looking forward to go against them.
“Since we started pretty roughly, it’s important for us to win this year. We need to pay back for the support from our school and families.
“Some of those that started training with us dropped outt, we did not have a lot of players to start off the season with. We are really blessed that God is with us to win and be in the final this year.
“We did everything we could to get fit, the more we trained the more we ate,” he added.
The automotive engineering student hopes to continue both his trade at the Fiji National University next year and continue playing with a local rugby league club. Naitasiri Warriors captain Senivalati Vunibola said: “We know RKS has been playing rugby league longer than us but we will play our best and do the talking on the field.” In other grades Ba Provincial Dragons will take on RKS and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) School in the U-15 and U-17 grades respectively.
Namosi Titans will face Lomaivuna Warriors in the women’s final.
