Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has made it clear that any appointments to the civil service and Government jobs will undergo a proper process.

Mr Rabuka made his intentions clear while addressing people of Korotasere Village at Vaturova district in Cakaudrove Province.

He confirmed receiving a letter of complaint from supporters of the People’s Alliance who were part of the election campaign.

Marijuana

The complaint was to seek employment opportunities in the newly advertised Government jobs. Mr Rabuka refuted claims that after the Coalition Government’s election win, some supporters had gained jobs despite not meeting the job criteria.

Marijuana cultivation was again a subject Mr Rabuka spoke on in all villages during his tour.

Such illicit drug cultivation resulted in high levels of crime. Mr Rabuka stressed the high levels of iTaukei youths in correction centers, which he believed should be mitigated.

“Elders must work together with youths to help them learn and develop in a positive environment free from crime ideas,” he said.

Self-initiative drive

Community self-initiation is crucial for efficient village development projects, said Mr Rabuka.

On the 6th day of his tour, Mr Rabuka urged the villagers of Korotasere to take the first step towards project initiation.

He shared his experience of encouraging his own villagers at Drekeniwai in the Cakaudrove province to initiate their own projects, including the construction of an evacuation center.

He added that the government could provide assistance during the final stages of the project’s completion.
