Study hours for students extended
Electricity challenges will be a thing of the past for Korotasere in Vaturova district, Cakaudrove.
This is after Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commissioned the solar power yesterday.
Tui Vaturova, Emosi Veidra thanked both the current and previous governments’ efforts in bringing solar electrification to the community.
“The sole purpose of solar electrification is now a reality because of them,” he said.
With the installation of the solar panels, students will now be able to extend their hours of study, and family livelihoods are expected to improve.
Village headman and district rep, Wakeini Melo, thanked the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for accepting the invitation to commission the system. “I feel proud and touched by the visit of PM and the commissioning of a vital resource,” Mr Melo said.
Mr Rabuka advised the villagers to take ownership of the renewable energy and ensure wise use, with children’s education at its core.
“Feel fortunate and use it wisely because not every village has this resource,” he said. While the cost of the solar panels was not disclosed, it was revealed that the government provided assistance for the project.
Mr Melo said almost 300 villagers would benefit from this newly sourced power supply.
“Solar power is not only a renewable and free of charge energy source, but it also provides accessibility during natural disasters,” said Mr Melo.
Proper lighting will allow senior citizens access to toilet facilities late at night.
Although some homes are yet to be installed with the solar systems, Mr Melo assured the community that the government would help those homes as well.
For parents like Diolaca Ranadi, 35, the installation of the solar panels brings peace of mind.
“I am now at peace that my sons would have ample time to devote for their studies,” she said.
