BANK ASSOCIATION APPOINTMENTS
The Association of Banks in
Fiji has a new chairman and its deputy.
Haroon Ali, Country Head of BSP Financial Group Ltd (BSP)was appointed chairman on May 10. He was BSP’s Group Chief Risk Officer at the Bank’s head office in PNG for five years.
Mr Ali has more than 43 years of banking experience of which more than 30 years have been with the ANZ Bank.
He is a generalist banker with experience ranging from Retail Banking, SME, Commercial & Corporate Banking, Credit & Operating Risk, International/ Trade Finance and Back-Office Operations.
Risk experience includes appointment as Regional Risk Executive – Corporate Banking for ANZ’s Eastern Region in Melbourne.
Mr Ali hails from Vunimoli in Labasa and is married to Halima Ali, has two children, son Zibraan Ali and daughter Zeenuba Ali.
His second daughter Nishrat Bano joined the family as their daughter-in-law having married Zibraan.
Mr Ali holds a Master of Management from Southern Cross University in Sydney and Business Management Certificate from Central Queensland University. He is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia. He is also an Honorary Fellow of Fiji Institute of Bankers.
ABIF DEPUTY CHAIRMAN
Westpac’s chief executive, Shane Smith, is deputy chairman of the
ABIF Executive Board.
Mr Smith is an experienced Pacific banking executive who has worked for Westpac for 37 years.
He has worked extensively across the Pacific and had roles across Samoa, Vanuatu and Westpac Australia. Prior to his current role, Shane was Chief Operating Officer for Westpac Pacific.
He is passionate about the role banks play in people’s lives and in enabling economic growth in Fiji. Shane looks after a workforce of 550 employees and over 250,000 customers. com.fj
