Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua outside back Vani Va’aga Arei said her current achievements would not have been possible if it was not for divine intervention.

Arei shared her story during the team’s thanksgiving function for their recent back to back Super W win and $80,000 bonus cheque presentation at the Future Farms Pte Limited (trading as Rooster Poultry) branch in Navau, Ba on Thursday.

“I want to thank the Lord, if it wasn’t for Him, I wouldn’t have reached this far or achieved all that I have. I also want to thank my family for always supporting me from the start even when I faced challenges, they were always supportive,” Arei said.

“I also thank my friends for being there during hard times but where I am today is all because of God.” Arei said she forged a strong bond with team members during the recent financial hardships they went through while playing in Australia defending the Super W title.

“We did not let that bring us down; we came together in agreement as a team to overcome that, even though times were really hard. We have a strong bond and that assisted us managing the challenges to get through that as a team,” she said. The 24-year-old Nukubalavu, Savusavu lass with maternal links to Tunuloa, Cakaudrove said she had been playing in Australia for six years before joining the team.

“I’ve been playing there for six years at club level, I went through with the Rebels. I was in the Rebels squad in 2020 and I went up to Brisbane as I was in the extended squad but when I got a contract offer from Fijiana I chose Fijiana Drua,” she said.

Arei said she would be working on improving her passing and overall fitness.

“I’m eyeing a spot in the Fijiana squad even though we won but still I have to work hard to get into the Fijiana,” she said.

She encouraged aspiring female rugby players to continue pursuing their goals. “Whatever you want exists so don’t settle until you get it, keep on pushing, even if you face challenges or don’t believe that you will reach your goal. I can tell you that I’ve been there so keep on pushing; one day you will get there,” she said.
