A mother’s love is unconditional. A mother’s love is the glue that holds us together. When we are young, we simply cannot imagine life without our mother.

Growing up with a single mom and seeing the struggle she went through had motivated Razia Mohammed to support vulnerable mothers. Ms Mohammed has been helping mothers since 2019 by providing them with food, milk and diapers for their babies.

Founder of Being Helping Hands Fiji (BHHF) said she had seen her own mom struggle and put on food on the table. “When a family breaks, mom’s most of the times take responsibility of her children without even complaining, so for me, its heart wrenching to see a mom struggle to feed her children,” she said.

She said for this Mother’s Day, BHHF have arranged for cake and refreshments for few mothers in Suva, Navua and Sigatoka.

“We have also started distribution of Mother’s Day shopping vouchers to single and underprivileged mothers,” Ms Mohammed added.

She said most of these underprivileged mothers were struggling to provide for the basics for their children.

“These were the super women who do so much for everyone else without being appreciated so what we have decided to do will surely make them feel appreciated and bring a smile on their faces,” she said.

“We have started our outreach a month ago as we had a lot of areas to focus on. Starting to distribute vouchers earlier was efficient for us.”

Ms Mohammed is a mother of two and she believes that her children as the best things in her life.

“The best part of being a mom is always coming home to their smiling faces regardless of how my day was it gives me peace,” she said.

“A mother’s love is unconditional. A mother’s love is the glue that holds us together. When we are young, we simply cannot imagine life without our mother. “During our teenage years, many of us experience an awkward, rebellious phase when our moms are embarrassing, or perhaps we thought of her as a big meanie. “But as we grow up, we slowly realise our mothers are our best friends with our best interests at heart.

“Our moms are the ones we call for in triumph and sorrow. When we grow up, we realise there is truth in the phrase, “Mom knows best.”

“There are countless times in life when we need our mother, and no one else can take her place. For me, I will never stop needing my mom and I think we should remember and appreciate our moms everyday not just on mother’s day.”
