KNIFE POINT ROBBERY AT SHALIMAR STREET

- >WATI TALEBULA-NUKU

What was supposed to be a normal grog session, turned out to be a traumatising morning for Joana Ravono and her friends.

Ms Ravono, recalled the ordeal of Monday May 15, when they were robbed by five people at their home in Shalimar Street, Raiwaqa, Suva around 12am.

Ms Ravono, who had just moved to Shalimar Street last month, said what they had experienced was like watching a movie.

“At around midnight, five men suddenly jumped onto the porch where we were drinking grog with knives and told us to cooperate,” Ms Ravono recalled.

“Four of them were on the porch while one went into the house and grabbed a bag and PS4. I tried to fight off one of them before another man put a knife on my neck.

“It was the first time I have come across something like this. When we shifted, we were told that a lot of robberies always happened in Shalimar.

“They were all wearing masks but we could tell that they were young men who maybe were in their 20s,” she said.

“We are in continuous contact with the Raiwaqa Police Station for any update on the robbery and missing items.

“If anyone can help, if you notice four Samsung phones, PS4, Braven Bluetooth speaker, laptops, wallets, cash and car keys being sold on Facebook or if you see it at all please contact the Raiwaqa Police Station.”

The matter was reported to Police. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Raiwaqa Police Station personnel were pursuing leads on the identity of the men. “The masked men forcefully entered the home belonging to a 34-year-old woman and threatened her friends with a knife and stole items worth more than $10,000,” Ms Naisoro said.

“Investigators have gathered information with regards to the identity of those involved and are looking to make arrests soon. Investigations continue.”
