Classics winner Gordon will return

Aussie profession­al golfer James Gordon shot 20 under 268 to take out the Sheraton Golf Classics 2023 in style at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club on Saturday.

Behind him with five shots was fellow countryman Josh Geary (273).

“This is my second time to be in

this event, I had finished second last year,” said Gordon.

“I have being a pro four years and will return next year to defend my title.”

Kerry Mouthcastl­e shot 13 under 275, ahead of Harry Bateman (277) and senior winner Brad Burn (278).

Danika Coyne was among the top finishers in the women’s category.

“It is my first to compete here in Fiji, while the course was beautiful the weather was awesome on the final day. I will come back next year,” Coyne said.

Coyne and Gordon are from Howlong Golf Club, in the small country town of Howlong, New South Wales which has only a population of 3000.

They partnered with Kim Gray and Andrew Clalland for the stableford­s.

Javed Shameem said the 11th edition of the Classics was another successful tournament.

“Aside from the competitio­n, it is the annual reunion of old friends and the forging of new friendship­s on and off the golf course,” Shameem said.

“We value our ongoing partnershi­p since day one, which was eleven years ago and we look forward to the next one,” he said. Shameem thanked the presenting partners FMF and Rooster and other support partners like Fiji Airways, Tappoos Fiji, Punjas Group, Hotelware Supplies, Motiram, Mali Pest Control, Digicel, Telecom Fiji, Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, Regent Furniture and Ecolab.

The 2024 edition will be held in the second week of June next year.
