Multiple Private Hospitals Open Up to contribute to Fiji’s health sector
Our medical sector has come a long way over the past decade or so. There was a time when one would rely largely on the government hospitals and health centers for treatment.
Today there are multiple private hospital options not just in the central division, but also in the west. Oceania Hospital, is conveniently one of the oldest fully fledged private hospitals and provides a range of services.
It continues to invest in new technologies to improve its services. What used to be commonly known as the De Asa family-run Nasese Medical has also transformed into Nasese Private Hospital.
It operates 24 hours with extended services offered through their emergency department.
Then there is FijiCare which through its partnership with Chennai-based MIOT, currently operates MIOT Pacific Hospital. Family-run Nine Miles Medical Centre also has plans to contribute to Fiji’s health sector by bridging the gap between accessing medical services and affording healthcare services.
We also have Zen’s Medical Centre, that has been a household name in the Healthcare and provision of Private Medical services 1999.
Again it has allowed for a range of services including home visits and telemedicines for patients.
The latest addition to this transformation in our medical sector is Pacific Specialist Healthcare which had initially started off with its facility in Walu Bay, Suva however, they had recently taken a major step and opened their stateof-the-art 100-bed facility in Legalega, Nadi.
Through this investment, Pacific Specialist Healthcare Nadi has become the largest private hospital in the South Pacific.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the opening said the coalition government will continue to recongnise the growing number of medical tourisms.
Mr Rabuka said it takes a lot of courage and effort to build the facility as Fiji is nestled in the hub of the pacific.
“Establishing the new facility will make a good market for the business in the country,
“This facility has advanced facility with ready equipment’s to provide services to individual, he said. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad said improving Fiji’s health sector is one of the priority areas for Government.
After opening Nine Miles Medical Centre, he said the delivery of health services in Fiji has been far from satisfactory.
Mr Prasad acknowledged the wisdom, knowledge, expertise, drive and energy that exists in Fiji. He said the Government’s job is to bring those talents and energy in a partnership and work together.
“The role of SMEs is recognised in the country and the Government is focused on making sure that the partnership between the Government in terms of improving public service delivery is also built on those who are doing these things out of their own investment and ability.”
