Aresort developer aims to introduce river sports in Labasa. Developer Vinesh Dayal said the resort named as Vualiku Ecotourism Resort where river sports would be engaged.

He shared these sentiments during the launching of the resort’s plan in Labasa yesterday.

The sports includes: kayaking, jet-ski cruises, river safaris, yachting and so on.

The resort would be spread across an area of 210- square meters. When approached on the timeframe (start and completion) of the project, Dayal said it would take 18 months.

“Eight months for structure building and we intend to start by September this year.”

Dayal said apart from river sports, they would introduce a river situated restaurant space for customers.

He said with hardly any tourist activities available in the Central Business District of Labasa Town, tourists coming to Vanua Levu mostly prefer Savusavu.

“I interact with many tourists

coming to Savusavu, who say why do we go to Labasa for, what does it offer to us,” he said.

Tourists would be also taught some fishing techniques as part of the proposed activities.

Dayal believes this new stream of business would lead to some businesses venturing into it also. He emphasised that no business person should be stopped from expanding his operation.

“I believe that every business must be given equal opportunity and every small businesses must be supported by their seniors,” he

said.

River sports is new but it is an interesting business idea to venture into especially in Labasa. Dayal said water sports would be enjoyed by both locals and overseas visitors.

“We must make use of our natural resource, the river, and create income generating opportunities.”

Dayal reiterated that more job opportunities would be created when such river sport activities were conducted.
