Ba Targets Bonus Point Win
The Ba men’s rugby team will be gunning for a bonus point win against Macuata in their final Skipper Cup home game of the season.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Ba Rugby Union secretary Pastor Gabby Kautoga said his team had prepared well for the Macuata side. “It’s a critical game for us as part of our mission is to be in the top eight in the Skipper Cup standings,” he said.
“It’s a must win for us so the team is aware of the task ahead despite a few injuries to our players in the game against Lautoka last week.” Kautoga said they are certain that Macuata would field their best players.
“A win will secure our spot on the Skipper Cup competition,” he said. “We need a bonus win to take the burden out of us knowing that we have to book a spot in the top eight in the points standings.”
Kautoga said his players have to make smart decisions on the field against Macuata.
“The players made a few bad decisions in the game against Lautoka last week, which was costly.
“We had been working on it for the past two days,” he said.
“If the players stick to the game plan then we’re likely to get the win.”
Kautoga said the team’s strength lies in their sturdy backline. “Vilimoni Delasau is one of the best backline coaches that we have due to his vast experience playing rugby overseas,” he said.
“Initially we had three players injured from last week’s game, but one player has recovered while the other two will miss the match against Macuata.”
Kautoga has urged the vanua of Ba to turn up and support the team in their Skipper Cup campaign. The match will be played at Vinod Patel Park at 3pm
