The presence of Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua at Thomson Park will motivate the home side to defeat Vinod Patel Ba in their round eight Skipper Cup encounter this Saturday.

This was the gist of head coach Maxwell Hughes’ interview yesterday.

“The weather has been good, and we’ve prepared well for the match against Ba this weekend,” he said. “A few of our players suffered niggling injuries after the game against Naitasiri but the injuries are not serious as everything has been running smoothly so far.” Hughes described the Ba rugby team as a good side with its unique rugby history.

“We will need to cut down on our mistakes and use the ball wisely when in possession,” he said.

“We need to score more tries and look for the ball in defense.” Hughes said they will look to prevent Ba’s attack from gaining ground. “I was impressed with my team’s performance against Naitasiri last week despite the loss; these players played with their hearts out,” he said.

“The majority of the players in our team are playing in the Skipper Cup for the first time.” Hughes said he is confident that his team can win against Ba. “I am confident that these players will do their job on the field on Saturday,” he said

“Unity is the team’s biggest strength even though we haven’t won a match, but I know together we’ll get to the top eight.

“With the Tui Namosi (Ratu Suliano Matanitobua) at the ground; that would be our motivation to win.”

Hughes urges the support of the vanua Namosi to back their team on Saturday.

“Please do not lose faith in us as this is your local sons playing this weekend,” he said.

“We also urge the people of Namosi to pray for the team.”
