New winners in FTU annual sports event

When the dust settled at Prince Charles Park, four new winners were crowned at the 94th Fiji Teachers Union annual sports event.

The Dass Seafood-sponsored Nasinu football team beat Suva, the defending champions, 2-0 in the final which was witnessed by a good crowd.

Nasinu’s goals on either side of the half were scored by Suva and national futsal star Rajneel Singh and Baulevu High School teacher Stanley Mistry. Singh was awarded the tournament’s best football player award.

The Nadro Hardware Supplies-sponsored Nadroga netball team beat the defending champions, the Niqua Investment-sponsored Nasinu team, to walk away with netball title.

Emalaini Rabuatoka was awarded the tournament’s best netball player award. The men’s and women’s volleyball titles belonged to Rewa and Levuka.

The Apex Pharmaceut­ical and Hilite Fiji-sponsored Rewa team edged Suva two sets to nil to create history by winning the men’s volleyball title for the first time. Aminisitai Roko of Rewa walked away with the tournament’s best men’s volleyball player award. Finally, the Dass Seafood-sponsored Levuka side beat the Remington-sponsored Nasinu side to take the women’s volleyball title to the Old Capital. Resina Rosi of Levuka was awarded the tournament’s best women’s volleyball player award. In the veteran’s football competitio­n, the Northern veterans beat the LICI-sponsored Western veterans 2-1 in the final. Diven Prasad of Bua was awarded the tournament’s best veteran football player award.

The Western veterans won the veterans netball competitio­n beating the Central veterans. Sunita Prasad was awarded the tournament’s best veteran netball player award.

According to the FTU assistant general secretary, Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam, all the games were played at Prince Charles Park and teams had come prepared for the intense battle.
