The past few weeks have been hectic indeed and this makes our April issue full of awesome reading that we hope will keep you inspired and focused until the next one.
We were hit by two tropical cyclones. First it was TC Josie, then a few weeks later, while those affected were busy rebuilding their lives, TC Keni struck. For many this has been a challenging time and as we continue to make progress with our recovery efforts, we wish good health and good fortune to those affected.
We dedicate a few pages this month to stories of those affected by the disasters and floods. Hopefully, the articles and photographs we’ve captured from Ba will help you grasp the level of hardships some of our fellow citizens are going through and encourage you to support any humanitarian relief efforts targeted at getting our fellow citizens from Ba back on their feet.
We have an exclusive interview with one of Fiji’s most powerful businesswoman, Dr Nur Bano Ali in which she shares with us her upbringing in Sigatoka and her education and gives us a rare peek into her life as a prominent professional woman on the go, a women’s advocate and a mother.
For Fiji Gold lovers, we spoke to Mataiyasi Naua, the career brewer who helped discover the formula behind this smooth tasting beer when sales of Fiji Bitter were on the decline. Naua shared his experiences at the Pacific’s biggest brewery, his romance and marriage to the woman who swept him off his feet and how he now spends his days on retirement.
We also give you a story of how a rural boy from Saioko Village in Ra is making a name for himself in Britain’s Royal Air Force. Meet Toga Matamoana Loco, formerly of Mahatma Ghandi Memorial who now proudly flies Fiji colours where he works as a flight lieutenant.
With a lot of talk on green growth, climate change and sustainability, we decided to explore the local recycled fashion scene. Yes, we went to Value City’s Vivrass outlet in Laucala Beach to picked a few clothes and organise a photo shoot to help show how you can look good and smart in a second hand outfit that is environmentally friendly, affordable and stylish.
And of course, as always, we bring you regular articles on health with Dr Krupali Tappoo, food with celebrity chef Lance Seeto, Flavours from Afar with Priya Darsni, tips on how to keep fit and healthy with the Bulalicious team, S’Pacifically Speaking by Bernadette Rounds Ganilau and our longest running column, 2Bags.
Hope you enjoy your reading.
Until next time, have a great month, keep safe and good luck!
