Tagituimua sets target

- By TALEBULA KATE

THE ultimate dream for Penioni Tagituimua is to represent Fiji at the Rugby League World Cup in England in 2021.

The 20-year-old from Rakiraki, Yale in Kadavu is part of the Fiji Rugby League Men’s 9s team to the Pacific Games in Samoa.

Tagituimua who plays as a halfback for the Nadera Panthers made his international debut for Fiji in their 56-14 victory against Lebanon in the 2019 Pacific Test.

The former Suva Grammar School student said he began playing rugby league in 2013 until 2015 when he was awarded a scholarship to study and play at Ellesmere College in the United Kingdom for three years.

Tagituimua said while in England he played both codes — rugby union and rugby league — before he returned last year and rejoined the Nadera Panthers.

The second youngest of six siblings Tagituimua said he was excited going into the Games in Samoa.

He says he is going to enjoy the experience of his first Pacific Games and would work with his teammates to achieve their ultimate goal of winning a gold medal.
