Let’s work together, urges new president

- By FELIX CHAUDHARY

NEWLY-elected Nadi Taxi Association president Aslam Khan says he is ready to work with all cabbies, including zone permit holders, to ensure that everybody benefits, especially the travelling public.

“We are all part of the same industry and we must find a way to work together for the benefit of our customers,” he said.

“At present the zone permit holders — because they don’t have allocated bases — are operating wherever they can,” he said.

“We want to work with the Government and Nadi Town Council to allocate them bases because that is where base operators are affected.

“Sometimes zone taxis are operating out of council bases and they need to follow the criteria — as the new president of the Nadi Taxi Association this is something that I will take up.

“I want to make it very clear that we are not objecting to zone permit holders, they just need to have bases allocated to them.”

Speaking on behalf of zone taxi operators, Panapasa Qoro thanked Fiji Taxi Association president Raben Bhan Singh for allowing more than 70 zone permit holders to participate in the Nadi Taxi Association annual general meeting yesterday.

Mr Qoro also urged the Nadi Taxi Association and base permit holders to allow zone permit holders to operate freely in Nadi.

He said that at the end of the day, every one was a public service vehicle licence holder and that should remain the focus of their vision — to ensure the travelling public was able to enjoy taxi services throughout the day and night.
