Media fraternity meets new UNDP reps
MEMBERS of the media fraternity yesterday had the opportunity to meet the newly appointed resident representative of the UNDP Pacific office in Fiji, Levan Bouadze and deputy resident representative Karin Takeuchi.
Mr Bouadze said the media played a pivotal role in raising awareness of critical issues affecting people.
“You are a very important community for the kind of issues we deal with including Sustainable Development Goals.
“These include access to markets, leaving no one behind and reaching the farthest first,” he said.
He said their main focus for the Pacific region was on climate change.
“I want to continue the good work that my predecessors have done. We have one of the biggest and growing programs.
“We are going to remain in the field of climate change which is one of our main entry points to support countries of the Pacific region in adaptation and mitigation in climate change issues that the region is facing.” Mr Bouadze said he looked forward to making a significant contribution in inclusive economic development which also was one of the important assets of development.
“I really want to make a contribution and I really want this organisation to make a significant impact in the country as part of the bigger UN family.”
Ms Takeuchi expressed her delight to meet the media acknowledging their role to communicate SDGs to a wider audience.
“We would like to see how we can engage more broadly on development issues in Fiji and the Pacific region in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
