Brumbies rule again

- NADROGA RUGBY UNION

FATIGUE is probably taking its toll on the Vusu Brumbies as they scrapped through a spirited Wai Stormers in their seventh challenge match last Friday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Vusu Brumbies scored their only try after a solid 20 minutes of play in the first half.

The try was scored and converted by Josese Yaya to take an early lead of 7-0.

The intensity of the match increased which resulted in a yellow card given to Wai Stormers’ Malikieli Matanihiga in the 25th minute.

Brumbies used the opportunity to increase the score and it was successfully converted by Sovita Nagatagata to lead 10-0.

In the 30th minute Stormers were rewarded a penalty which former Suva cum Nadroga rep Jaoji Dakuvula converted for their first points on the board.

Nagatagata slotted his second penalty in the 37th minute to further their lead to 13-3 st half time. The second half was all Wai Stormers as they scored a try through Apenisa Lomawai and was converted by Dakuvula to trail 13-10.

With the Stormers’ raging waves of attacks which frustrated the Brumbies players who lost some aggressiveness and lost some composure in their defence.

As a result, Dakuvula registered an additional three points to level scores 13-all in the 60th minute.

The last quarter was very tight with Vusu Brumbies unloading all in their tanks to stop the Stormers from scoring any more points. Jone Qoro of Vusu Brumbies had the last say with a penalty for their 16-13 win for another defence of the Kalevu Shield.

Vusu Brumbies now play Cuvu Blues at 6pm tomorrow at Lawaqa Park.

Result: Vusu Brumbies 16 vs Wai Stormers 13
