ANEGHA Narayan walked away with a silver medal yesterday after losing to Australian Tamzin Christoffel in the finals of the tae kwon do under-49kg women’s category at the Faleata Harvest Centre in Samoa.

Narayan lost 4-49 with a win by point to Australia.

Despite being her first competition, Narayan was content with her achievement and aimed to do better in the future.

“It was a good learning experience for me because I had to fight against Australia’s number one fighter, so it was good experience for me because now I know where I need to improve on,” she said.

“Next time when I come back I will aim for a gold medal and I will be able to know where my capabilities lie.”

Being the only female in the Fiji tae kwon do team, Narayan faced challenges before the trip to Samoa.

“It has been really tough for me because we started training from last year and being the only female in the group, I was thankful that I had helpful teammates who always pushed me to do my best.

“I had been practising really hard, going beyond my limits to get the weight required and I am glad that hard work has paid off,” she said.

Her father Nimesh Narayan was by her side yesterday.

“My father was the reason I joined tae kwon do because he used to practise it. He is my inspiration so I am glad that I won silver for my country with him beside me.

“Being here for my first Pacific Games outing is a dream come true and I hope to grow from here,” said Narayan.
