Customer appreciation
FOR a business to become successful it would need passionate leaders as well as a loyal customer base.
This was how The Edge Hair and Beauty Salon found its place in Fiji’s beauty industry while still growing its brand.
Director of the company Reshmi Lal said they had faced numerous hurdles to their business however they were still striving because of the team.
“We have stepped into retailing side from a very small salon and this is a bigger branch compared to my previous location,” she said.
She said the first time they had opened they didn’t make much money and had returned home empty-handed.
“Each year passed by and things got better as people are hiring me to come to their homes to do their make-up.”
She said clients specifically hired them to do their hair and make-up for the wedding with interests coming not only from the locals but from overseas as well.
To show their appreciation to their loyal customers Ms Lal and the managing director organised a workshop on women empowerment through the skills of grooming and maintenance on July 9 last week.
About 20 women were chosen specifically by the team as the director said she wanted the participants to be those who had little experience with make-up and hairstyles.
“Usually when people reach a milestone with their business they throw cocktails and parties celebrating with those who are able to afford but we decided we would do something with people who don’t get time to groom themselves,” said Ms Lal.
The managing director, Aroof Ali said they were hoping to go bigger and carry out more community work while providing the best service they could.
“With the theme of Women Empowerment we hope all of you (participants) will get something good out of this workshop and when you walk out of here you would feel it was productive,” he said.
The Edge Hair and Beauty Salon focuses on hair and beauty treatments, as well as offering bridal packages while providing retail products for hair and skin care.
From their humble beginnings of just two staff, the duo has added five members to their team with plan to hire more in the future.
The business can also branch out to Prime Plaza in Nadera and according to Ms Lal they hope to have future workshops in the Western Division to target more women.
All 20 participants had received hamper packs from Colgate Palmolive.
