BIG MATCH FOR TOUCH RUGBY

-

THE Fiji Touch Rugby team recorded two losses and a win yesterday in their first few rounds of matches of the Touch Rugby mixed teams competition at the St Joseph’s grounds in Alafua, Samoa.

The team lost to Samoa 4-6 in their first match, they lost to Cook Islands 3-8 and managed to come up fighting in their last game against Solomon Islands 18-3.

Head coach Tomasi Tiko said the team was working on different combinations on the first day of competition.

“What we had been trying to do on the first day of competition is try out our combinations because we have 28 players to choose from and we want to see how well they compete as a group and work together.

“We recorded two losses and a win but we have learnt a lot from that, we know now what we are going up against so we should be able to pick our best combinations for tomorrow for our final rounds,” said Tiko.

The team will play Tonga and Papua New Guinea today and they need to win to advance into the semi-finals play off.

“It is not over for the team, so far we are going well into the competition and we know we will work better in our next two games.

“I guess we were a bit relaxed after our bronze medal win from both the teams yesterday (Wednesday), we need to get back into business so we can do better in the remaining day and hopefully get to another level,” said Tiko.

The semi-finals and final play off will be held today.
