IT’S almost the end of the XVI Pacific Games here in Samoa and the excitement has just gone up to another level after blue ribbon medal by none other than our very own and the fastest man in the Pacific, Banuve Tabakaucoro.

It was indeed a wonderful feeling for me personally to witness with my own eyes the record breaking victory for Tabakaucoro as we hail from the same village.

I guess I was the only person that was actually at the far end of the 100m track shouting “bring it on home” as Tabakaucoro was nearing the tape.

And I understand when they say that it’s a different feeling when you watch it on television and when you watch the race with you own eyes — it was like heaven on earth.

Just an overwhelming feeling was also there yesterday during Glenn Kable’s shootout for gold in shooting.

This is another scenario as there has to be pin drop silence during the shoot-out.

Until the Samoan shooter missed that crucial shot that gave Kable the chance to shoot for gold which he did. And we the Fijians there at the shooting range were elated to see Kable bounce back from his bronze medal win gold.

We, team The Fiji Times are very happy as well for the reception provided by the Samoan people every single day be it at the sports venues, shops, roadside or any other place for that matter.

We are always greeted by bula greeting every day, whether it be night or day. And we are also in love with the food, I guess it’s back to calorie shredding when I get back home.

Until tomorrow, moce mada!
