More than just a sport
PARENTS, teachers and sporting administrators were yesterday challenged to put the interest and the needs of Fijian children to help nurture a good future.
The challenge came from Fiji Rugby Union’s Vela Naucukidi who was the chief guest at the launching of the twoday Quick Rugby Festival during the Vodafone Fiji Primary Schools Rugby Union’s Central Zone Two competition at Saraswati Primary School at Manoca, Nausori, yesterday.
The tournament has age grade teams from nine districts comprising of schools from Tailevu, Rewa, Wainibuka, Waidina, Rewa, Tailevu and Naitasiri.
“Today we will witness the first ever Quick Rip Rugby Festival in this region Tailevu and Naitasiri,” Naucukidi said.
“Most of us feel that playing rugby is just but a simple game, it is more than just a sport. It symbolises a beginning of something, a dream to an individual and to a team, it also has an end which we all look forward to when we compete in a rugby competition, where we meet new friends, we either win or lose, we have fun, we travel to a new places and it signifies renewal as well as change.

“The needs of our young children should be paramount and will need to be embedded into each plan of sports activities for realisation of potentials.”
Tournament director Lasarusa Senibale said the festival was to get schools together from Rewa, Tailevu and Naitasiri provinces in one competition to expose the rugby talents among their children.
