A large number of international junior surfers have arrived in Fiji ready for this weekends Powerade Junior Pro at Cloudbreak.

Cloudbreak has a history of luring the best surfers in the world over the past three decades.

The juniors competing in this years Powerade event include surfers from Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Samoa.

There is also a strong Fijian contingency that will see Korotogo’s Kalani Wakeham, Coral Coast’s Api Tibinaliva, Wailoaloa’s John Vasea, Vunanui’s Ulai Tukano, and Samu Bokadi, Kulukulu’s James Kositino, Kayla Wakeham and Kiesha Wakeham from Korotogo and Linietta Ralumi from Vunanui.

The level of surfing is expected to be exciting and at a very high level. Some of the Fijians will be using this event to secure their place in the Fiji Junior team that heads to the ISA World Junior Surfing titles in California in October / November.

To the sponsors of this event Fiji National Sports Commission, Powerade, Cloudbreak, Wailoaloa Boardriders and Rendezvous Surf Resort a huge thank you for supporting the development of surfing in Fiji.

Competition starts at 9am on Saturday and will finish on Sunday.

At the end of July the Mokusiga / Ask the Carpenter Club team challenge will be on.

Last year saw Suva Reef Boardriders Club claim the inaugural victory by 2 points ahead of the Coral Coast Club and the Vunanui Club.

The top ride in the Open men was Coral Coast’s Jimmy Tuitavuki, the Open Women Vodo Au’s Hannah Bennett, Coral Coast’s Senior Bruce Climo and the Junior’s Coral Coast’s Api Tibinaliva.

Each Club team consists of two open men, 1 open female, one U18 surfer, one over 35 surfer and a club judge.

The winning club takes home $1000 and the top ride in each division wins $30. Each surfer in the team earns points, even for coming last place there’s one point.

When the points are tallied it comes down to a point or two that separates the final results. Its a great social day, sitting on the grass watching all the action at Beachouse Resort with plenty of Mokusiga beers and plenty of food to order at the kitchen. Get your Boardriding Club to get their entry in before you miss out.
