King of the tracks
CONGRATULATIONS to our sprint king and Bau bullet Banuve Tabakaucoro for scooping another gold medal on the tracks in Samoa. Although “Banz” was challenged to the tape by hometown boy Jeremy Dodson, he fought bravely and stopped the clock at 20.87s to win his second gold medal.
The win ensured that the former Marist Brothers High School student successfully defended his 100m and 200m sprints, which he won consecutively in 2011 (Noumea) and 2015 (PNG). I compliment young Heleina Young for giving her best as she finished second.
On the other hand, our men’s and women’s football missed out on a spot for gold medal playoffs but they have an opportunity to bring home a bronze medal. The women’s team outclassed Tonga 3-1 while the boys played gallantly only to allow the Solomon Islands outfit an equaliser.
All the best to the teams and to the rest of the participants in Samoa!

The man
THIS man called Banuve Tabakaucoro has proved that his champion status is no fluke. He has once again proven against odds that Fiji has the ability to nourish champions.
The FMF global brand ambassador is in fact a super hero.
He has proven that with discipline and hard work one can attain success.
There was a time when he used to scoop gold medals at school level, a status which he has been able to maintain thereafter.
Being the fastest man in the Pacific is no mean feat. One has to have guts before, during and after such events to be a champion.
I salute this gentleman for his wonderful personality and hope other young men and women grasp his recipe for success in their daily life.
Vinaka Banuve.
You are great.
