NEVER give up in trying to achieve your goal.

Fiji’s Ana Kaloucava the silver medallist in the 400m women’s hurdles stressed this saying her job as counsellor and research analyst at Lifeline Fiji has not only helped people but it has also helped her.

“My aim is to try and give them hope and there is nothing for them to give up and that is what I’m trying to do, not to give up my goal,” Kaloucava said.

“We have a purpose to fulfil and that’s what I’m trying to help out with people,” she said.

The 26-year-old of Nabitu, Tailevu lass with maternal links to Narata Nadroga not only won silver but also set a national record of 61.01s.

“I was expecting that actually because that was my aim all along,” Kaloucava said.

“I didn’t really get what I wanted but I’m still thankful that the result was still good,” she said.

The former Adi Cakobau School student said it’s not the end of the road and still had a long way to go.

“I’m not done, I still have that aim to beat my competitor from PNG and especially representing Fiji in the Olympics.”

However an emotional Kaloucava said the road to the XVI Pacific Games was not easy as she did not get a lot of support.

“At first the preparations was really hard, we didn’t really get all the support especially from my family side. It was just some complications but as it got closer people started to know and my family knows that this really means a lot to me and it’s always been my passion. I’m still thankful that all along God was with me.”

She said she would take a break after the games but would be back.

“Right now I will take a little break but it’s not going to be a complete rest, I still want to work hard and reduce my time for the next year.”

Meanwhile Donna Koniel of Papua New Guinea won gold while her fellow country woman Topal Annie settled for bronze.
