Kable collects 2
IT was a wrap and a double gold for Fiji’s ace shooter Glenn Kable at the final day of the shooting competition at the Taifagata Shooting Range at the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.
The four-time Olympian won his second gold in the individual DTL points score event with a total score of 299.
“I’m very happy and certainly the pressure was on, I didn’t know what the scores were going into the last round which is often a good thing,” Kable said. The 56-year-old said in this sport one must be focused on every shot, taking one shot at a time and he was exceptionally happy to get through that last round victorious.
“Difficult conditions to shoot in, the sweats dripping to your eyes and over your glasses and I’m glad it’s over.”
However winning the gold was not a smooth ride for Kable as his arch rival for the past few days and the gold medallist in the double barrel event Franco Caffarelli of Samoa on Wednesday was putting pressure on Kable all the way throughout the competition. “Absolutely all the way through and that’s what it’s all about,” Kable said.
“It’s good to have that sort of competition, you want the scores and once you slip up and you’re tied and anything can happen from there.”
The 19-year-old Caffarelli settled for silver with 296 points while Tuanua Degage of Tahiti won bronze with a score of 295.
Kable won his first medal, a bronze medal in the double barrel event on Wednesday and a gold in the single barrel event on Thursday.
