DAD SHARES SIVO’S RISE TO NRL ARENA
THE story of how NRL Parramatta Eels superstar Maika Sivo struggled to be a better rugby league player in the NRL competitions was revealed to the Nadroga under-12 Kaji rugby team last weekend by his father Joeli Nawalu during their awards night at Sigatoka District School.
A message that motivated and inspired the players how Sivo experienced and the achievements his son has accomplished throughout the years when he started from Kaji rugby, Nadroga provincial U20 and the national U20 team to the Junior World Cup and now a spotlight in the Australian National Rugby League for the Parramatta Eels.
Nawalu acknowledged the players, teachers and families for inviting him to be one of the guests at their function.
“I thank God for this opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with what I’ve seen through my son and I would want to share with you.
“Sivo was a hardworking boy who never gave up on the little things and the the goals he wanted to achieve and my message to him was to always let the Lord lead for him and keep acknowledging him for what he has given you,” said Nawalu.
Sivo hails from Momi village in the province of Nadroga and he went through the development system of the under-20 and Kaji but it was his enthusiasm and persistency that carried him through.
“Nadroga is known to be the solid foundation of Fiji rugby and many have grown in rugby locally and internationally and I hope that from this gathering, we will see a future Sivo from this lot and I know it’s possible.
“It takes commitment, sacrifice and hard work to achieve a better and brighter future in rugby and it is not impossible but keep in mind to trust the Lord and let him be your compass to lead you throughout your journey,” said Nawalu.
Nawalu represented his son who was supposed to surprise the Nadroga U12 Kaji rugby team on their breakup party in Sigatoka last weekend.
