9.9pc increase in construction value
A TOTAL of 399 building permits for construction work valued at $90 million were issued in the June quarter of this year.
The Fiji Bureau of Statistics highlighted that the number of building permits issued declined by 5.5 per cent while the corresponding value of works increased by 9.9 per cent when compared with the March quarter of this year.
According to the bureau, building statistics show the number and value of permits and completion certificates issued during a period.
Meanwhile, when compared with the June quarter of 2018, the number of building permits issued and the corresponding value of works declined by 9.5 per cent and 10.6 per cent respectively.
It was also highlighted that out of the $90m value associated with building permits issued, the Central/Eastern divisions accounted for 57.5 per cent while the Western Division accounted for 38.2 per cent with the Northern Division taking up 4.3 per cent.
Other buildings accounted for 71.8 per cent, private dwellings accounted for 25.3 per cent while other alterations and miscellaneous accounted for 2.9 per cent.
In terms of completion certificates, 167 were issued with a value of $32.4m in the June quarter of this year.
The bureau stated that when compared with the March quarter of 2019, the number of completion certificates issued declined by 1.8 per cent while the value of construction works associated with the completion certificate increased by 16.5 per cent.
Meanwhile, when compared with the June quarter of 2018, the number of completion certificates issued and the value of construction works associated with the completion certificates declined by 1.2 per cent and 37.8 per cent, respectively.
