Designer wins awards
DESIGNING has always been a hobby for Selfie Boutique boss, Yogesh Tailor who runs not only a retail shop but also Kachin’s Apparel garment factory at 32 Toorak Rd, Suva.
Tailor, 52, said designing had always been his hobby since he started school in India.
In 2010 Tailor set up his own garment factory Kachin’s Apparel.
Two years later, he established his retail shop, Selfie Boutique at Waimanu Rd, Suva.
“I’ve always thought about having my own garment factory so in 2010 I set up Kachin’s Apparel. I wanted a retail shop separate from the garment factory to sell our ready-made garments so in 2012 I set up Selfie Boutique here at Wainamu Rd.”
Tailor says the heart of the business is manufacturing exclusive garments and selling them at reasonable prices to their customers.
These garments include bula wear for ladies and men ranging from sulu jaba, dresses and bula shirts. Plain white dresses for ladies and girls as well as plain white shirts for men. Particularly keeping up with the latest designing trends.
“My youngest daughter who is also good in designing constantly informs me about the latest designing trends and fashion which is important in my field of work and I of course incorporate these new designs to my fabrics to meet my customers’ demand.”
Tailor said his passion for designing and his experiences from school and his former work has allowed him to effectively run both his garment factory and his retail shop.
“We import our fabrics and materials all the way from Indonesia. However, we do not face any challenges in the business both in the garment factory and in our Selfie Boutique retail shop.
Kachin’s Apparel has 10 employees who are responsible for the manufacturing of all the garments sold at Selfie Boutique.
He was employed at Rinee Garments and was a designer during the Red Cross fashion show from 2000 to 2001 specialising in men’s, ladies and funky style categories.
During the Red Cross Fashion show, Tailor scooped six awards from the men’s and ladies categories.
