Akbar: Keep relations formal

- By ANISH CHAND

THE Education Minister has asked heads of schools to “keep a distance” from school management.

“Try to keep a distance, try to keep it very formal and very professional,” minister Rosy Akbar said.

“The moment you become very friendly then you will see some boundaries will be overstepped.

“I come from the teaching background and we used to be scared of school managers.

“The school management would decide if you stay in the school or not.

“The school management would decide who the headteacher or the principal of the school was.” Ms Akbar said the ministry was reviewing a manager’s handbook which will among other things clearly demarcate the roles and responsibilities of managers and school committee members.
