Towns look at merging operations
THE newly-appointed special administrators for Rakiraki and Tavua are looking at merging the operations of the two municipalities to avoid the duplication of responsibilities.
Chairman Mark Hirst, who managed the Naboro Landfill for 10 years, said they would try to streamline operations in the towns, and also focus on improving debt collection.
He was introduced to the two town councils last week along with members, Ivamere Saunaqali and Luke Mataiciwa.
Ms Saunaqali is an academic while Mr Mataciwa is a former United Nations program manager.
The three have a two-year term.
