- By AQELA SUSU

FOUR people were arrested during random checks at two separate roadblocks this week for drug-related cases.

The first arrest was made at the Laqere roadblock in Nasinu after 1pm on Tuesday.

Police confirmed a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old taxidriver of Sakoca with two passengers in their 20s from Caubati in Nasinu was stopped and searched by officers manning the site.

“The officers discovered plastics containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana, smoking apparatus and more than $1000 cash,” police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said.

Also discovered was the original number plate of the vehicle with an expired wheel tax sticker.

Police said the second arrest was made at the Wainadoi roadblock where dried leaves believed to be marijuana were seized on Thursday.

Also discovered were cash and several mobile phones.

All suspects are in custody as investigations continue.

Police are requesting members of the public to be patient with the officers who will be erecting roadblocks throughout the day as this is part of the ongoing operations in tracking down on illegal activities.
