Memory lane

-

FROM the outset, 10.10.1970. As a 9-yearold I remember vividly when all my peers enjoyed juice and each had a small flag after a memorable celebration as the new national anthem was sung “Blessing Grant oh God of Nations” among the villagers young and old as master Isireli (Sr) and mistress Kalesi Ravu led them out during the independence day celebration at Kade Village school on Koro Island.

In the twist of events interestingly enough, that a week before the 10.10.2019, that I received an unusual call from a lone voice inviting me that if I should avail myself for his chiefly installation on independence day as it will be held come Thursday, whether it will be a genuine or otherwise only time will tell.

In retrospect, before the eve of the game between Georgia and the Flying Fijians the public at large had spoken, many blessings and a few curses and the result was now part of history and John McKee and his men had done the impossible.

In a nutshell, F/T 29/09 our own Fijian Ben Ryan (Ratu Peni Latianara) “I for one will be slipping on a Fiji shirt, watching the matches and cheering them on”.

Last and not the least as Churchill told his soldiers never give up! Never give up! Never give up!

“We will have victory” come what may Romans 9: 1. God bless Fiji.
