Real heroes
IT gives me immense pleasure and pride to contribute towards World Teachers Day commemorated today throughout the globe.
Teachers, gurus and mentors have always been there in all societies. Teachers are some of the most special people in our lives. During our young impressionable years, that one special teacher became our inspiration and role model. That unique and warm person became our parent outside of the home, our confidant and our friend.
Teachers are an important role model for all educational organisations. Whatever it is a school, college, university or any other institution they work hard for shaping the lives of their students.
At Teachers Day, all teachers should be thanked because of their support for educating and guiding the students on the right path.
Our teachers are our real heroes without any doubts! They are the ones who inspire us, guide us, enlighten us and most importantly motivate us to get the best out of us and shape us.
Not all the teachers are the same, but in our timeline, we met some who not only understood their profession, their duty, and responsibilities but also gave their best.
I remember my days at Wainikoro Public School and Nadogo Secondary School and those hard days where the teachers and students worked round-the-clock to accomplish academic excellence and paving the way forward for us. We are shining today because of those teachers and their values. By the way, the deep respect for the teachers was forever visible in those fragile days. Probably, something that is not visible these days!
I understand that as teachers we face a mammoth task when dealing with students with physical and intellectual disabilities but considering the fact that teaching is a noble profession we must never give up. We must accept it as a challenge and prove that every child has abilities and untapped talents that need nurturing and growth. This is the only way we are doing justice to ourselves.
A strong education system broadens access to opportunities, improves health, and bolsters the resilience of communities. Moreover, education provides the skills people need to thrive in the new sustainable economy, working in areas such as renewable energy, smart agriculture, forest rehabilitation, the design of resource-efficient cities, and sound management of healthy ecosystems.
I wish each and every teacher on Earth success and enough respect as that’s what they surely deserve.
May the Almighty continue to give strength and endurance to all teachers for greater prosperity and progressive Fiji. Happy Teachers Day.
