Treatment improves
FIJI has improved dramatically in terms of breast cancer management thanks to the improved training of many of the medical professionals.
This was highlighted by Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete while launching the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Pinktober campaign yesterday.
He said collectively he was grateful that the team of medical professionals at the CWM Hospital had been able to work together to improve services around cancer.
“We are continuing with that process,” he said.
“One thing we have to be clear on is that Government continues to improve health care.
“We continue to see greater access to health care not only for Fijians but for those around the region that are seeking health care here in Fiji.”
Dr Waqainabete also said Pinktober was an opportunity for everyone in Fiji to take stock of the importance of their health.
“The awareness is for those of us who are well in asking ourselves the important question of whether or not we are healthy.”
About 700 people die because of cancer every year in Fiji and 1100 new cases of cancer are recorded in the country annually.
