Poppy appeal launch
MEMBERS of the public have been urged to buy a poppy and wear it proudly in remembrance of the bravery, courage, and ultimate sacrifice made by Fiji’s servicemen.
Speaking at the launch of the National Poppy Appeal at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva yesterday, Acting Prime Minister and Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau said the dedication and selfless commitment, dedication and sacrifice of Fijian servicemen and women needed to be acknowledged, respected and supported.
“We as Fijians always feel obligated in ensuring that the world we live in is a safe place by bringing peace and security to troubled regions,” he said.
“Fiji is a proud country that has continually made commitments to effectively contribute to world peace through the various peacekeeping missions
“To all our service personnel, both current and former; and your families, your dedication and bravery in times of despair has placed Fiji in the global front as a pillar of strength and resilience.
“The nation and I salute you with our greatest respect and gratitude for your service.”
Mr Koroilavesau also told members of the public that Fijian veterans, servicemen and women gave so much for the stability and prosperity that Fijians now enjoyed.
“They gave their today for our tomorrow, they withstood the test of time!”
The appeal will run until November 11.
