Focus on Wales

AFTER a convincing win over Georgia, Fiji Airways Flying Fijians head coach John McKee says they are taking a positive attitude to their next game, against Wales.

Playing the reigning Six Nations champion will be the toughest assignment for the Dominiko Waqaniburotu-captained side next Wednesday.

“We know the challenge ahead of us,” McKee said.

FLYING Fijians openside flanker Semi Kunatani said lessons learned in the losses to Australia and Uruguay drove them to their first win in Pool D when they beat Georgia 45-10 at the Hanazono Rugby Stadium in Osaka Japan on Thursday evening.

“We have learned a lot of things from our past games,” Kunatani said.

“And we will continue to work together as a team.”

Kunatani, who made his Rugby World Cup debut against Georgia, made it even more memorable by scoring a try.

“We thank the all our fans and families for all their support.”

Flying Fijians halfback Frank Lomani echoed the sentiment saying Fiji knew how important the game was in terms of qualifying for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“We wanted a win,” Lomani said.

“It was a great effort from the boys and they put their bodies on the line to get the much needed win.”

Lomani is one of the local players in the team. The Flying Fijians play Wales next Wednesday, October 9 at Oita Stadium in Japan at 9:45pm.
