Cuba, Fiji ready to help
FIJI and Cuba are both committed to helping the world through its great difficulties.
This was highlighted by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama as he concluded his official State visit to Cuba after meeting Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel in Havana.
Mr Bainimarama said whether there were challenges of eradicating poverty or promoting good health and care for their people or climate crisis, the two countries were always on the right side of the debate table.
During his bilateral meeting with his Cuban counterpart, discussions were centered on agriculture, medical collaboration and tropical medicine, climate change, sports, reciprocal free visa entries and the Pacific Islands Forum with Cuba as a dialogue partner.
Both leaders held discussions on the issue of medical collaboration and tropical medicine where Mr Bainimarama thanked the Cuban government for its international collaboration which has immensely benefited Small Island Developing States such as Fiji.
Mr Bainimarama said he recognised Cuba’s resilient healthcare system in using natural medicine and looked forward to advancing the two countries’ collaboration opportunities in the area of medicine.
As part of his visit, Mr Bainimarama also visited the Colonial Habana Museum to learn more about Cuba’s history and the La Cohiba Cigar Factory.
He also met the 21 Fijian medical students currently pursuing their six-year medical studies in Cuba.
