Japan bound

- By PAULINI CURUQARA

ADI Asenaca Caucau’s love for writing has rewarded her with a trip to Japan this week to officiate and watch the Rugby World Cup.

She is the winner of a DHLsponsored RWC essay writing competition.

Tomorrow she will be on a plane to Japan to be the ball carrier in the match between Fiji and Wales on Wednesday.

And it will be a memorable trip because it will be the first time she will meet her namesake and grandmother.

She is named after former Fiji government minister and teacher, who now lives in the United States.

She is a student of St Anne’s Primary School in Suva.

Her mother Naomi said it was going to be an emotional meeting between the namesakes.

“She is flying over from the United States to Japan next week to meet her namesake,” Naomi said.

In Wednesday’s game Caucau will be delivering the match ball between Fiji and Wales at Oita Stadium in Japan.

Caucau is the youngest of three siblings and Naomi, who hails from Vadra, Moala in Lau, will accompany her on the trip.

She thanked DHL for giving her daughter a grand opportunity to see the world.

Adi Asenaca will get worldwide television and media coverage when she runs on to the ground to deliver the match ball.

Her family members are expected to accompany her tomorrow.

“To have my family supporting me and being there for me as I deliver the match ball will be the best thing in my life.

“It’s all about faith and believing in yourself that anything can happen when God is by your side.”

Adi Asenaca joins Valaimatagi Lam from Samoa and Christine Vea of Tonga as the lucky three Pacific Islands children who were selected by DHL Express Fiji to fly to Japan and be a part of this once in a lifetime experience.

Fiji plays Wales at 9.45pm.
