DEFENDING champion Navua has booked a spot in the semi-final of the senior division at the Courts Inter District Championsh­ip which will be played at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Saturday.

This is after Navua defeated Seaqaqa 3-1 yesterday. This was Navua’s second win in the competitio­n having beaten Tailevu Naitasiri 2-1 in the opening encounter.

Defending champion Navua has qualified for the semi-finals after beating Seaqaqa 3-1 in its second Group B at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

Coached by Mohammed Shafeel, Navuant went up in the 21st minute through Manav Permal’s volley.

Captain Vineet Chand scored the second goal for Navua.

Navua led 2-0 at halftime. Seaqaqa managed to pull one back in the 50th minute through a powerful drive from Mohammed Rahim.

Nippy striker Sharad Kumar sealed the win for Navua in the 86th minute.

Navua will meet Nadroga in its last match at 11am today which will decide the group winner and runner-up.

Navua captain Chand said it was a tough match against Seaqaqa.

“We scored two goals in the first spell but were made to work hard to grind out a victory,” Chand said.

Nadroga also booked a spot in the semifinal after beating Tailevu Naitasiri 2-0 in the second Group B match.

Striker Jonas Naceva proved to be the star for the Stallions netting both goals in the first half.

Nadroga’s Joeli Navalawa and Tailevu Naitasiri’s Tevita Ratu were sent off in the 52nd minute for violent conduct. Results: Nadroga 2 Tailevu Naitasiri 0, Savusavu 0 Lami 0, Navua 3 Seaqaq 1, Dreketi 2 Northland Tailevu 2.
