Gregan hails our flyers
THE Flying Fijians have really improved, say’s Australian rugby legend and former Wallabies skipper George Gregan.
The former Test halfback was also at Oita Stadium in Oita, Japan to witness the Fiji-Wales match on Wednesday night.
“I can say Fiji was outstanding particularly in the first half,” Gregan said.
“They were really impressive but unfortunate to get that yellow card but they played some really good rugby.”
FOR us we can come away from this tournament with our heads held high.
Those were the words of Flying Fijians coach John McKee when asked on how did reflect on their 2019 Rugby World Cup journey.
“We came with very high aspirations and we wanted to get to the quarter-final,” McKee said in Oita after the game on Wednesday night.
“That was one of our objectives but we haven’t achieved that and that’s disappointing.
“The world cup is a massively competitive environment and it’s difficult to get out of pool play.
“For me we can come away from this tournament with our heads held high after our performance today (Wednesday).”
McKee said credit must be given to the player, management team, coaching staff and the players who didn’t make the match day 23 squad.
He said they were inspired by their players who played especially against a good Welsh team.
“It was pleasant that finally at the world stage we were able to show what the team is capable of,” he said.
McKee also talked about the missed opportunities when a few final scoring passes which were rule forward by the match officials.
The Dominiko Waqaniburotu-captained side left Oita for Tokyo yesterday where they will be based for a few days before they return home on Sunday.
