Pageant launched
Seventeen queens vie for Miss Fiji crown
THE 2019 Miss Fiji Pageant was launched in Suva last night — and while all municipal councils will be represented by two queens, Suva will have only one — last year’s Hibiscus queen, Jessica Fong.
The 17 queens are expected to compete in the event which will decide who will represent Fiji at the 2019 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant. Except for Suva, all municipalities will be represented by the winners of the 2018 and 2019 pageants.
The theme of this year’s Miss Fiji Pageant is “Women Empowerment”.
Miss Fiji Pageant chairman Div Damodar said the launch marked the commencement of Fiji’s national annual pageant with the focus on empowering women
“The pageant provides the platform that will enable contestants to reach various goals and aspirations for personal and professional development, civic enrichment and to inspire other young girls and women of the Pacific to participate, make decisions and take action on their lives, society and their communities,” he said.
Mr Damodar said the pageant logo represented the new vision and mission of the newly appointed Miss Fiji Pageant board and committee.
“The logo symbolises women; love, peace, beauty, respect and passion, a goddess of the Pacific. Women are the heart of our households and the souls of any society and this is translated in the logo and will be portrayed during the pageant.”
The pageant will be held from November 11-15 at the Suva Civic Auditorium.
