Suva, Labasa in final

- By ZANZEER SINGH

IT will be a Suva versus Labasa battle in the Courts Inter District Championship premier division final at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this afternoon.

This is after Christopher Wasasala proved to be the hero of the Capital City side scoring the winner in the 87th minute against Ba in the second semi-final last night.

Replacement Ratu Anare Apenisa showed classy footwork on the right flank heading into the Ba box and gave a neat pass straight on to the foot of Wasasala who tapped the ball into the goalmouth silencing the Ba fans who had turned up in big numbers.

The match proved to be worthy of a final with players from both teams playing their hearts out. Earlier Labasa hammered Nadi 5-0 in the first semi-final. Labasa last won the IDC title in 2016 after beating Ba 2-1 in the final at the ANZ Stadium while Suva won the trophy in 2014 beating Nadi 1-0 in the final on home soil.

It will be a repeat of the 2018 final in the senior division between defending champions Navua and Nadroga.

In the semi-finals yesterday, Navua beat Lami 4-2 while Nadroga edged Savusavu 2-1. Last year Navua defeated Nadroga 2-0 to lift the trophy while Nadroga last won the senior division IDC title in 2017 ironically beating Navua 2-1 in the final.

Navua and Nadroga will face off at 2pm while Labasa will play Suva at 4pm. The winner of the premier division will receive $25,000 while the runner-up will get $6000.

The senior division winner will collect $7,500 and the runner-up will get $2500.
