INDIAN High Commissioner Srimati Padmaja started her official visit to Vanua Levu by advising municipal workers of the scholarship opportunities available in India.

She said the study programs on offer would increase knowledge and equip them to better perform their roles.

“There are various universities you can attend and there are scholarships for various courses and everything is free from your doorsteps to the period you return home,” Ms Padmaja said.

“We have discussed our relationships and we are keen to have this association with municipal councils.”

She said Labasa was a special municipal area in Fiji and she was also looking forward to visiting the Savusavu copra mill this week.

Labasa special administrator Ami Kohli encouraged the municipal workers to take up the fully funded scholarships in India.

“If you are interested, please do apply and we will release you to take up the courses,” he said.

Mr Kohli thanked the Indian High Commissioner and her team for visiting Labasa.
