The Roaring 1920s
On March 12, 1920, The Fiji Times reported that women’s indecent attire was causing church officials to express strong words of protest. One such official was reported to have issued a pastoral “scathingly rebuking women for indulging in sensual balls and absurd, audacious garments”. The pastor said the passion for luxury and pleasure is degrading family life. “We are falling into a sink of heathen immorality,” The Fiji Times quoted the pastor as saying.
