Timely help for amputees
FOR many years, Fijian amputees suffered physically, mentally and emotionally because it took quite some time for them to access advanced prosthetic legs.
Former member of Parliament and Paralympic gold medallist Iliesa Delana highlighted this in Nadi’s Denarau Island last week after receiving $100,000 worth of prosthetic legs and prosthetic parts.
The aid was given by former Paralympic champion Wojtek Czyz who is currently travelling around the world giving prosthetic parts to amputees who needed them under the sailing4handicaps banner.
The gift will help 36 people get prosthetic legs and 52 knee amputees.
“Being an ambassador for sailing4handicaps Fiji is an opportunity to give all my best in shaping the lives of people with amputees, giving them hope that life continues,” Mr Delana said.
Mr Czyz added he would be in close contact with Mr Delana should Fijian amputees need prosthetic parts in the future.
The gift was also made possible with the continued partnership Mr Czyz had with Port Denarau Marina.
