Hit-and-run case moved to High Court
A MAN who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident which killed a police officer in Nadi last week had his case transferred to the High Court in Lautoka.
Viliame Rokotabaivalu, 21, is facing manslaughter and drug-related charges.
Magistrate Peni Dalituicama referred the matter to the High Court in Lautoka because of the seriousness of the offence and also informed defence lawyer Mark Anthony to make a formal bail application at the next hearing.
Mr Rokotabaivalu faces one count of manslaughter, one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, one count of careless driving, one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident, one count of using motor vehicle contrary to licence condition and one count of unlawful possession of an illicit drug.
The illicit drug, believed to be marijuana, was found inside the vehicle.
He has been remanded in custody until his next hearing at the High Court in Lautoka on October 23.
