- By LUKE RAWALAI

BAU chief and former politician Adi Litia Qalirea Cakobau has passed away at the age of 78.

Tailevu chief and Roko Tui Namata Ratu Paula Halaiwalu confirmed the death, saying he was traditionally informed that Adi Litia passed away at her home in Lautoka on Tuesday last week.

He said in accordance with her wishes, Adi Litia would be laid to rest on Friday at the chiefly burial grounds in Namata, Tailevu, the village of her mother, the late Adi Veniana Gavoka.

He said a delegation from Bau, led by Adi Litia’s younger brother Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, had already approached him and they had agreed to fulfil her wishes.

Adi Litia was the daughter of Ratu Sir George Cakobau who was Fiji’s Governor-General from 1973 to 1983. She was appointed to the Senate in 2001 as one of the nine nominees of government, and held this post until 2006.
