Plea for proper road

- By SITERI SAUVAKACOLO

RESIDENTS of Naqiroso, an informal settlement located about six kilometres outside Lautoka City, have to walk one kilometre to access transport to school and work every day.

For the elderly, the track is often too difficult to make.

When people are sick, they have to be carried to the Queens Rd for transport to the hospital.

Settlement headman Ratu Sione Ravusou said they had been pleading for a road to link them to the Queens Rd for many years.

“If we have a road, not only will it ease transport and safety of our children and those who are working, it will also open Naqiroso up to many other developments,” he said.

“We have tried so hard, we have written so many letters, we have knocked on so many doors and this started from our parents, but nothing has been done.

“We continue to wait in hope that our prayers will be heard.”

The informal settlement is home to 108 people of which 38 are schoolchildren.
